WASHINGTON SQUARE PRESS (POCKET BOOKS, INC.)
Series Note: In the years 1950-56 (at least), the Washington Square Press book series was published by Pocket Books, Inc. of New York. From the early 1960s the series was published by Washington Square Press, Inc.
According to a Pocket Books, Inc. list of titles published in Spring 1961, the Washington Square Press was an imprint of Pocket Books, Inc. (1 West 39th Street, New York 18., N.Y., United States).
Each of the Washington Square Press books was at that time issued with a serial number beginning with the letter W and occasionally with the letters WPL.
The imprint included subsections such as:
(1) The Language-Through-Pictures Series
"The quickest and easiest way to learn another language. These excellent aids are prepared by I. A. Richards, Christine Gibson and the staff of Language Research, Inc., Harvard University."
The serial numbers of the titles in this "series" included W1, W2, W3, W4, W8, W10, W15, W22, W30, W32, W38, and W39 (the titles are all listed below).
(2) Self-Teaching English Books
The serial numbers of these titles included W50, W51, W55, W500 and W570 (the titles are all listed below).
(3) Language Guides
"Compiled for students, business people and travelers at home and abroad."
