THE SKETCHBOOK SERIES (Adelaide, Rigby Limited, 1966 - c. 1982) - CHECKLIST
Series Note:
The Sketchbook Series comprised approximately 175 titles. Subjects covered included cities, suburbs, towns, regions (e.g. Kelly Country, tropical Queensland) and geographical features (e.g. bays, harbours, islands, mountains) right across Australia as well as of characteristically Australian places and items (e.g. hotels, pubs, churches, schools, vineyards, goldfields, horses, ships, riverboats). There was an emphasis in many of the books on historic buildings. A couple of sketchbooks featured areas outside Australia (e.g. Auckland, Fiji).

Cedric Emanuel illustrated many of the books in this series. Other artists who illustrated books included Bill Beasley, Paul Rigby and Unk White. The text of the books was written by quite a few well-known writers such as Patsy Adam-Smith, Brian Carroll, Alexandra Hasluck, Bill Hornadge, Douglas Lockwood, Peter Luck, Valmai Phillips, Olaf Ruhen, Colin Thiele and Tess van Sommers.

Each book was published as a series of full page black-and-white sketches accompanied in each by a short description. The majority of the books were originally published as octavo sized hardbacks with dust wrappers (about a dozen books were published as oblong quarto hardbacks). Some of the books were later republished as hardbacks or paperbacks.
